MG has just released it’s new HS mid sized SUV and it has definitely taken a step in the right direction.

“With the all new MG HS, we have put the very best of MG into an SUV,” said MG Motors Australian and New Zealand CEO Peter Ciao. “…The MG HS will have broad appeal to customers who are seeking premium features and design at an attainable price point.”

One thing is for sure, pricing for the new MG HS is sharp – the Vibe costs $30,990 drive-away and the range-topping Excite model costs $33,990 drive-away – following MVB’s first look at the new MG HS there is far more to be excited about than the price.

Looking past the dollars for a second, the one thing you will instantly notice is that MG has produced and attractive vehicle. This is half the battle when trying to draw people to your brand in a sea of mid sized vehicles. The list of standard features is impressive to say the least. This gives customers a feeling of value along with its solid warranty providing peace of mind.

Today we are looking at the Excite model. This model from our initial impressions offers a better package and more value for money. Crucially, though, the suite of safety systems under the ‘MG Pilot’ banner is standard across both model variants. The HS also gets a full five-star safety rating from ANCAP.

Both variants get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. This is all passed through a large 10.1 inch central control screen. The infotainment system is sharp and responsive while also sporting a built GPS System.

One of the most appealing parts of this new MG is the interior. The Excite model has comfortable leather clad seats, plenty of useful storage and charging provisions, as well as the 10.1 inch infotainment screen. The Excite also gets a sporty, flat-bottom steering wheel to match the paddle shifters.

There’s plenty of room in the second row, competitive luggage space for all your gear, two USB ports in that second row and a fancy flip down arm rest that includes 2 cup holders.

The 1.5 litre inline four-cylinder turbo petrol engine makes 119kW at 5600rpm and 250Nm at 4400rpm. The MG’s engine feels a little on the small side in comparison to that of other SUV in the mid sized range. MG’s seven-speed automatic feel smooth and responsive on first impressions. Buyers will also receive a seven-year warranty along with roadside assistance for the same time frame.

MG have come along way in only a few years in the Australian market, which they deserve praise for. If you are looking for a vehicle in this size or price range you would be hard-pressed to find a vehicle as jam packed with features for the price. It makes the MG an Exciting proposition.

Engine: 1.5 litre inline four-cylinder turbo petrol
Output: 119kw/250nm
Transmission:  7-speed Auto
Fuel: 7.3 L/100km (ADR Combined)
Safety Rating: Five-star ANCAP
